Pirate Wench Costumes

In terms of costumes, the beer wench costume is quite an unusual choice. Who want to go as a person that serves beer all night ? Well no one I guess but having said that, if you are the host of a party or work in a tavern, bar or pub around some festive occasion or holiday, then you can certainly make a big impression wearing a costume like this.

The original beer wench costume seems to have evolved out of the outfits that servers wear at the Oktoberfest. It is a mix of practical and sexy. The costumes that have evolved from it for Halloween and other fancy dress parties seem to have put more accent on the sexy and played down the practical elements. This should give you your cue. Any beer wench, serving wench or bar wench costumes that are primarily for fancy dress are more about looking sexy.

So what can you expect form a beer wench costume ?

The flirty fraulein costume is the starting point. This is your classic Oktoberfest servers costume (or at least an imitation of it). In terms of sexy appeal, it has a short green skirt, black bustier/corset and an off the shoulder white frilly dress. In terms of practical….well, there is an apron.

Sidebar: Real Oktoberfest servers pride themselves on the number of tankards of beer they can deliver to a table. Many wear wrist and hand supports to help then carry the load. Their costumes are not quite as flirty as this one either. More emphasis on the apron than the frilly off the shoulder top. Spilling beer is an occupational hazard.

From here the costumes go more for sexy than anything else. For example, the German beer girl costume for adults will really get some attention.

It features a  cropped peasant top which is laced up with cherry colored laces. The same cherry color is used for the “miniest” of mini skirts. As a tribute to it’s origin, the beer girl costume has an equally mini serving apron (looks like a napkin to me !)

As you can see this is not really about serving beer or being behind a bar but more about flirting and having fun at your next party of fancy dress occasion.
